BARR & STROUD CF.5 24 X6 BINOCULARS VTG SER 92647 1940s NEED SOME TLC
This is a reasonable pair of binoculars, but not without minor issues so please read my observations carefully.
They are reasonably clean inside, though there are perhaps some light deposits on the prisms. I can not see any scratches on the lenses. Externally these do have “as found” dust and marks.
The serial number 92647 may date these to the late 1940s (1947-1951)
The adjustable diopter seems to be somewhat improperly indexed with the fixed one, and only really do these focus properly together when the right is fully retracted, leaving them at different heights. Id have no problem using these set at that, but someone with a more challenging optical prescription might find adjustment difficult.
The lens rim covers both have cracks in them but are secure.There is a small crack in the strap slot on the lower right hand of the bottom cover but it does not seem to be going anywhere else.
In short, these do need a little effort and Im sure in capable and caring hands, most of these issues could be easily resolved.
