WWII British Army Binoculars – 1938 – With Case & Sighting Graticule

These WWII binoculars are in good, but not perfect condition. They were made for the British Army in 1938, and have a serial number of  816. The maker is, “ROSS LONDON”.

The binoculars are in a British Army leather case with original leather shoulder strap. The case is marked “F.Ltd 1940” and “BINOCULARS PRISMATIC No 5 – CASE MK 1”. There are two loops at the back of case to attach it to a waist belt. Both the leather case and the shoulder strap are in very good condition.

The Sighting Graticule is in the right hand lens. Please see photograph 6 which is a hand drawn copy of how the Graticule looks when viewed through the lens.

The left arm of the binoculars is marked, “BINO PRISM No. 5. MK IIx7” “No. 816”.

The right arm is marked, “GRATICULES o APART and o, o AND 1o HIGH” – “ROSS LONDON” – “1938”.

The original Army issue webbing neck strap with small buckles, is attached to the binoculars.

The binoculars function smoothly and correctly. Each lens can be individually adjusted for optimal clarity of vision. Focusing is smooth. The internal lens’s are NOT crystal clear, but are useable. The bakelite eye cups are clean and free from chips or cracks; each eye cup has 3 tiny “grub screws”, all are present. The metal tube that protects the glass at the optical end also has a “grub screw”, on each side.

I cannot see any cracks or chips to the lens’s. Visibility through the right arm is clearer than through the left.

There is overall external paint loss due to wear and useage commensurate with 80 year old glasses (1938 – 2018) including war service.

As mentioned the “Sighting Graticule” is present, please photograph 6.

Buyer to pay for postage please which will be 5.50 within the UK.
