German CP Goerz Trieder Binocle 9x Military Binocular & Case WW1 Berlin Boer War

This pair of German military binoculars is an early example of prism binoculars. The triangular aluminum barrels have rounded edges and are covered with its original black leather that is all intact also a leather neck-strap that is in very good condition this is looped through the  eye on each barrel. It is stamped Not very clearly “C.P. GOERZ BERLIN” on the front face of the left barrel. It is stamped Again not a very clearly “TRIEDER BINOCLE” with a triangular prism figure on the front face of the right barrel. “9X” and “GERMANY and the serial number 111190 is stamped on the bridge of th rack and pinion adjustment mechanism  connecting the barrels on the eyepiece. The Central wheels are used for focusing and adjusting for eye separation. The binoculars come with a fitted leather case which includes a leather shoulder strap. The letters “N R” are scratched to the lid of the case (presumably the initials of the owner).
Condition of leather caseThe case is not in its best condition, But it is constructed from a good quality leather, inside lid lining is damaged, The leather securing buckle is also missing. The initials NR have been scraped onto the leather lid I presume these initials are of the previous owner. Good condition leather shoulder strap. It’s burgundy velvet lining has age related wear

Condition of binocularsOptics are undamagesd but are dirty internally, and would benefit from cleaning. When looking through ‘in reverse’, there is some dirt and fungus present.  Despite this damage, they are still in collimation and form a decent image, which hints at how excellent they would be if cleaned!   Both of the eyepieces and objective lenses are very good, without and scratches or damage.  The eyepieces are focused via a wheel, this mechanism is smooth in operation. The inter-pupillary distance is adjusted by a separate wheel mechanism, which is working perfectly  The Bakelite eye-cups are in very good shape. Please see the detailed images provided to fully assess the condition as these photographs form a very important part of the description.
