Ever wanted to take a photo of the Moon and wondered how hard and expensive it might be? How about 14.99 (+p&p) to get pictures like these:

Using your smartphone and our sturdy adapter you can take photos like these without spending a fortune.

Here’s how to do it in 17 easy steps (don’t be put off by the number of steps – they are baby steps!)

Manufacturer’s instructions are included in the packet but just to tempt you here’s how I did it.

How to take a picture of the Moon.
Before you embark on this make sure that you know how to work the camera on your phone and find the setting that will allow you use a Self Timer to take pictures. Set it for 10 seconds so that when you take a picture it will delay taking it for 10 seconds. This will allow any movement caused by touching the phone and scope to settle before the picture is taken.
Set up your telescope.Use low power eyepiece, say 25mm, and focus it on the Moon.Remove the eyepiece from the telescope.Remove the rubber eyecup from the eyepieceUndo the clamp screw on the camera adapter that will allow it to slide up and downUndo the other clamp screw so that it opens wide enough to fit your phone into it.Place your phone into the open jaws in a position so that when you tighten the jaws they will not squeeze against any of your phone controls (such as the volume or on/off switches).Tighten up the clamp to grasp your phone securely.Adjust the slider so that the camera lens is in line with the cut out in the centre of the large round ring.Undo the large ring on the adapter in the Loose direction marked on it so that the gap in the three jaws is wide enough to take your eyepiece.Place your eyepiece between the jaws with the telescope fitting end pointing outwards.Tighten the large ring in the Lock direction until it grips the eyepiece firmly. The whole weight of your phone and the adapter will be depending upon this so make sure it is secure but dont overtighten it and break things!OPTIONAL – Put a cushion or something soft under your telescope under the focuser end just in case anything goes wrong.Switch on your phone.Put the phone/adapter/eyepiece assembly into the telescope focuser and secure it correctly.Re-align the telescope so that you can see the moon in your finder scope and it should also be showing on your phone. Your phone should adjust its focusing to get a good image. You may try adjusting the focus of your scope but that may be a bit hard hence the advice to do it at step 2.When all looks good get snapping.
Not only can you photograph objects at night but the adapter will also work with spotting scopes.

* We strongly advise that you remove any rubber eyecups on spotting scopes as the adapter needs to grip something firm to stay attached.

A few words of advice:Start with a picture of just how it looks on the phone.Try pinching the picture to enlarge it.The image will move across the camera as you are watching it so align your scope so that the image will cross the viewing area. That way you will be able to take several shots before having to re-align the scope.Dismantle everything carefully. If your phone is the most expensive part of the set-up then give it the most respect so that you dont end up regretting the experience. The website LunaPic is a great place to experiment with your photos. You can change mirror image photos to match those in the books and magazines.
