This is a used 120mm short tube refractor, with a right angle finder 8×30, and mounted on AZ-3 tripod. It is all in nice condition, I have all the dust caps and it is safely stored inside the house when not in use. I have added a right angle mirror 1.25″ diagonal made by Meade. It has a 2″ to 1.25″ converter so you could add a 2″ star diagonal. I have added a 40mm 1.25″ Plossl Celestron lens. I have added ETX-125 camera piggy-back mount, which I have only bolted on so that I can hang weights to balance the scope, given that the OTA (refractor) is nose heavy. I have added a nice after market aluminium focus wheels, the originals were cheap black plastic. You have the accessory tray, with some M4 bolts, the original butterfly winged bolts have disappeared.
The short tube refractor is more like viewing with a large pair of binoculars, because 600/40mm suggests 15x magnification, with an apparent field of view 2.66 degrees. But if you get a 2″ 30mm lens with 80 degree apparent field of view, then you go up to an apparent field of view of 4.0 degrees. It is just great to look at say the Beehive, Orion’s nebula, basically getting a bigger picture of the sky. Clearly, if you had a 10mm lens, then 60x magnification with a likely 0.85 degree field of view, so enough for clearly viewing our moon and seeing Jupiter’s equatorial bands and visioning the four main Jovian moons as dots of light!
