Polarising/polarizing filters are used to polarise unpolarised light – and then some.   A polarising filter is often placed in front of the camera lens in photography in order to darken skies, manage reflections, or suppress glare from the surface of lakes or sea.  Since reflections (and sky-light) tend to be at least partially linearly-polarised, a linear polariser can be used to change the balance of the light in the photograph. The rotational orientation of the filter is adjusted for the preferred artistic effect.  For modern cameras, a circular polariser is typically used, this comprises firstly a linear polariser which performs the artistic function just described, followed by a quarter-wave plate which further filters the now-linearly polarised light into circularly-polarised light before entering the camera.  This additional step avoids problems with auto-focus and light-metering sensors within some cameras, which otherwise may not function reliably with a simple linear polariser.  (Wikipedia – anglicised)

By utilising a CPL filter, which filters out scattered light, you are able to cut through those reflections and see the detail behind it.

The CPL filter is effectively like using a 40% Moon filter that can adjust the contrast of the background sky.  It can also be used with the planets in photographic images

Applying these effects to a telescope eyepiece can bring about enhanced contrast to visual astronomy by changing the effects of the background and enhancing the image in photography.  Of course, there will be a degree of trial and error but I guess you are used to that.
PerformanceOur filters offer performance as good as, and in some cases better than, the top brands currently on sale.  The listing shows the actual performance curve for the CPL filter.  You can compare this to similar curves from the top brands and we are sure you will be pleasantly impressed. However, to ensure that you will be impressed with your purchase each filter is individually tested and issued with its own performance data sheet.  This is your guarantee that you are getting exactly what you paid for.
You will receive the above graph with your purchase (less watermark).  A full data sheet is available on request (Excel).

QualityEach filter is built upon a precision polished substrate of Schott glass. The specification speaks for itself and is supported by the data sheet.  The filter will retain its ‘as new’ optical performance for more than 10 years.  It is resilient to scratches, moisture, dew, and humidity.Even the storage package was carefully developed to take the greatest of care of your filter so that it can be a long lasting companion to you and your hobby or profession.

We can guarantee our filters – can you?
