Rare Davon Single Draw Micro-Telescope Early 20th Century. Designed for multiple uses including the taking of photographs through the main Objective, it proved more useful as a low-power terrestrial telescope rather than an astronomical one. Because it was capable of being deployed over very considerable distances and could be very precisely focused by use of the rack and pinion with the barrel-mounted wheel, some were actually used as trench telescopes during the First World War and were marked with War Department Arrows if they were issued for this purpose.This is a finely engineered optical instrument equipped with a 1 & 3/16″ sliding sun-shade to the Field Lens. * Excellent original condition* Achromatic 1.25″ Objective or Field Lens which appears never to have been dismantled .* Lenses 1 & 2 Cartridge mounted in the retractable section of the First Draw* Lenses 3 & 4 Mounted in a removable brass cartridge in the fixed section* All 5 Lenses appear to be in perfect condition.* Rack and pinion focusing by micro adjustment wheel.* Brass tube construction with stitched pigskin covering. Stitching all seems intact and original.* All brass sections have their original finish. There has been no restoration.
FAULTS:None apparent apart – from the fact that the sunshade moves perhaps a little too easily.The pigskin casing has a few age-related scuffs and minor indentations and one mark where it may have been tripod-mounted.

Often, they were supplied as leather-cased sets with sets of alternative lenses, a tripod and other fittings for mounting them in specific locations.
