For sale is a very RARE and early Carl Zeiss Jena Relief – Fernrohr Vergr = 10 Telescope / Binoculars with original leather case.
The length of the instrument is approx. 24cm when folded together and approx. 47cm long when fully opened. When opened it is inscribed in italics ‘Carl Zeiss Jena D.R.P’ on one side and ‘Relief – Fernrohr Vergr = 10’ on the other. Please see photos.
The instrument appears to be in original condition with no repairs / restoration evident.
However, as shown in the photos, there is much wear and some damage to one of the top external lenses. Looking through the lenses at the top you can see dirt, dust, fungus spots etc. I have not attempted to open up the instrument or to clean the item at all as I am assuming this will require professional input.
The instrument unfolds well and the metal lens covers rotate with ease. The eye pieces seem be of a Bakelite type material and are in very good condition, both wind in and out although one is less smooth than the other in its operation. The leather work to the main body does show wear but is in good stable order. The paint to the body is chipped, rubbed and missing in several areas.
When you look through the eye pieces you are able to get an image but there is definitely a lot of dirt and one bigger black mark present in the view. I am assuming that it will require significant service and or repair / maintenance before the instrument is able to function as it should. To avoid any doubt, I am selling the instrument as spares / repair.
The original leather case is worn but is solid and usable. Its fixing catch is missing. Inside the case there are two metal objects which I am assuming are tools of some sort for the instrument.
