RARE CARL ZEISS (JENA) DELACTIS 8×40 WIDE FIELD + CASE PLEASE READ ALL THE LISTING.A Rare pair of Carl Zeiss 8×40 Wide Field Binoculars from 1921-36. These are well used, chunky with some weight to them. The condition is OK, they work and the image quality is pretty good and bright with a good wide field. The OPTICS: Each prism has been removed and cleaned as best as was reasonably possible, they are not perfect with age related specks. The eyepiece optics are very good, with a good size exit pupil. The front optics on one side has edge virdigree on one side with some mottling of the glass, nevertheless, after cleaning them all up, I was astonished how good the image is!! The Prisms are not glued in nor have any obvious adjustment. They just slot into their seats and the collimation seems excellent. I do not have to make any adjustments at all apart from the focusing. One Eyepiece is smooth, the other works OK and is a little stiffer on rotation but not too bad.The black painted areas in most cases have been touched in to look presentable. You will obviously see the Brass name plates have been cleaned up. The paint was not good, so in order to see the legend, it has been cleaned off otherwise it looked unappealing. What I haven’t see before is the three what look like ‘Light Beams’ right off Delactis. Perhaps these simply indicate a Wide Field, if not, I do not know why they are there. Above the Carl Zeiss Legend is the No. LIKE 1900. R.A.N 234. Does anyone know what this reference is? The serial number on the opposite plate is clear to see. These glasses are still very usable as they are, or perhaps someone would like to attempt a full restoration. The Binoculars are quite chunky and has some weight to them, so postage overseas will not be cheap. UK postage will be by Parcel Force 48.The case is very good with marks, but overall, it’s in good order but has no strap. The Binocular strap is still very good. Unsure if it’s the original strap or not, but doubtful as it could be over 90 years old .These are obviously used, not mint, not even near mint. They work and they work well. These will be ideal for a Zeiss Bino’ collection…and there are lots of them! You will receive the Glass in the photos. You will not get a perfect item, so ONLY BID if you can use them for a prop, collection or whatever. Sold as is, with no returns. NO ZERO RATED BIDDERS, so if you are, please contact me before you bid to assure me of payment if you win. No contact means your bid WILL be cancelled at the risk of not paying. Thankyou. I am quite happy to keep these in my own collection if unsold as I still enjoy using them.
