As birds are generally small and fast it can be very hard to keep track of them with a high magnification. You want to be able to spot the birds quickly. We recommend 10x or 12x magnification ? Planes generally move a lot slower during displays so it?s a great opportunity to use a slightly higher magnification ? unless you are watching the red arrows! If you are on a walk and wanting to get up close to the wildlife or get a better look at the scenery then you want to go for an 8, 10 or 12x magnification. Any higher than this then you will require a tripod as it will be hard to hold the image steady by holding it. You wouldn?t want to go much higher than an 8x magnification at sporting events as the action will be fast moving and you will struggle to follow the movement.
