Pair of Vintage Avimo Military 7 x 42 Binoculars. (Hospiscare)
These military binoculars were made by Avimo of Taunton – manufactures of military electro-optics for about 60 years until ten years ago.
They have large eyepiece lenses which provide a super clear bright well-collimated image with really good eye-relief.There are no spots or dirt in the field of view.
But, there is no means of focusing. They appear to be permanently adjusted to infinity which means they are not useful below about 25 metres, which probably doesn’t matter for military use.
They come with eyepiece caps and a couple of filters in a separate pouch. They have a well-used look and the rubber cups are torn in places.
I feel I should know a bit more about them as I worked in the factory where they were made (but not on the optics side).
