For sale; a pair of Optomax 8×30 binoculars. They are Japanese-made; I would guess that they date from the first half of the 1970s. The manufacturers’ codes are JE33 (the metal-work) and JB87 (binocular assembled by Yachiyo Kogaku Co. Ltd). They have survived the past 40-odd years in very good condition as shown, with only light signs of use. The original case is included, as well as four lens caps, and straps for the case and binoculars. There is some wear to the case strap, but the smaller strap looks as if it has spent nearly all its life wrapped around the binoculars, rather than draped around someone’s neck. The focusing and dioptre scale work smoothly. The optics are very clean for their age; I can’t see any sign of fungus, and there is only minimal dust internally. They provide a bright, contrasty and well-collimated image with a field of view of 7.5 degrees. UK bids only, please. Item will be posted 2nd Class on receipt of payment via PayPal.
