Available in straight-through or 45, with standard optical glass or high performance ED objective lenses, the models are designed and manufactured to meet the three main requirements demanded by today’s active fieldscope user: high-end optical performance, usability and reliability.’High end’ optical performance and value The GS 815 uses a 81.5mm dia objective lens without any noticeable gain in size or weight over a standard 80mm. With a 4% increase in light entering the telescope, more light is emitted from the eyepiece and onto the eye thus rendering a brighter image at all magnification settings compared with 80mm models. Added to this the Japanese designed and manufactured components coupled to HDF T or SDL eyepieces produce images with minimal edge distortion and accurate colour reproduction.UsabilityEase of use in the field is critical to customer satisfaction and the GS is designed to provide class winning optical performance seamlessly in even pretty harsh environmental conditions. Protected by ‘full body’ natural rubber armour with a textured finish to the top half of the main body prism housing, the centrally positioned focusing wheel allows easy access for both right and left handed users and is also rubber covered to deliver a positive feel with or without gloves. The focusing system is designed to allow adjustment from infinity to 50 metres in just a 270 turn. Housed within the same mechanism for convenience is a 9:1 ratio accurate focus adjustment. To avoid problems of reflected light on the objective lens in bright sunlight the scopes are fitted with a 40mm retractable lens hood with integrated objective lens cover.As telescopes need to be used with a solid tripod for image stability, any weight saving is crucial. Constructed to be as light as possible, the standard GS 815 weighs just 1360g w/o eyepiece. When fitted with an eyepiece and mounted on a tripod, the scope is well balanced and does not ‘drop forward’ a common problem with many larger 80mm telescopes. The instruments are fitted with a -/+ 90 rotating die-cast alloy tripod sleeve with 45 incremental ‘stops’. This feature enables the scope to rotate around its central axis for accurate positioning when mounted to a bipod or on a clamp in a Hide.
