Mirador telescope with Hahnel adjustable tripod
This auction is for a Mirador telescope and a Hahnel adjustable tripod, both in used but good condition. The telescope is marked ‘Mirador’ below the eyepiece, and the lens at the opposite end bears a serial number of 00189 and the notation ‘D = 75mm’ which I assume is the aperture. There are no other markings on the telescope, which is largely unmarked apart from some cracking on the rubberised end of the main tube by the objective lens see the pictures. This has no effect upon the use of the telescope or upon the optics which are in perfect condition. The original lens cover and screw-on eyepiece shield are supplied with it. I believe that Mirador was a small Japanese optical company that is now out of business, so this might be quite a rare telescope – it certainly has a very low serial number.
The tripod is a high quality Hahnel VT626 unit that’s about 26 inches in length when closed up and extends to just over 61 inches as a maximum. It has three legs, obviously, each containing three sections, two of which telescope inside the upper leg. The length of each leg can be adjusted by simple clamps to cope with uneven ground, and each is also adjustable at the end using a round rubber foot fitted with a screw thread. When opened, tripod can be locked in position using a rotating clamp. The height of the mount can be adjusted by the use of a handle at the top of the tripod which can lift the mount up to 11 inches (the overall height measurement includes this). When the correct height is reached it can be locked in position. The mount can be turned horizontally, again with the option to lock it in position, and adjusted vertically using the handle which also locks it. There is a tension adjuster on the mount and also a spirit level which appears to have lost some of its spirit. According to a label on the mount, it has an ‘automatic air cushion column’. Finally, the mount has a square quick release connector that will attach to a telescope and camera bodies.
