The French binocular name JULES HUET was formed in the mid 19th century I believe, and produced good quality instruments both for civilian and military use.
Offered on this listing is an 8 x 30 JULES HUET of Paris porroprism binocular with revolving recticle in the right hand barrel. As yet, I have been unable to date this example accurately and would appreciate receiving any further information from military binocular experts. It looks broadly similar to HUET`s TRINOTIX model from the 1930`s, but it has no date stamp and only plain markings as can be seen in the photos. It has been suggested to me that it may be a World War Two model made for the German military during German occupation – but there are no codes stamped on it to that effect. I have also been told that HUET made glasses for the British military and that it could have been produced and used by the British army – who knows?? The binocular features independent eyepiece focusing as well as the revolving recticle – all controls and the central hinge work very smoothly. The original rainguard held onto the binocular by springs is still present and in good condition. What I assume is the original leather neckstrap is still present and in decent order, as is the case although the case strap looks much newer. The binocular produces very sharp and bright images comparing incredibly well against later East and West German Carl Zeiss 8 x 30 models.
Defects: for it`s age and use not too many…..paint loss exposing the brass conctruction, but the body coverings still clean and intact; a slight collimation error; one broken rainguard spring; very light fungus on the internal optics – worse in the Left Hand side
SPECIFICATION: JULES HUET Paris 8 x 30 porroprism binocular with revolving recticle; made in France; serial number 40936; weight 783 grams; 1147 grams including case & accessories.
These binoculars will be thoroughly double wrapped & packed for the purchaser and will be sent using a tracked service within the U.K. Carriage prices quoted are to mainland U.K. please contact me for a quote if you non-mainland. I will also send world wide using E Bay`s Global Shipping Programme. Collection is welcome. Paypal much preferred.
A rare military binocular whose history is unclear, as is its value! I have set what I think is a realistic price make me a very close offer if you prefer.
Any questions just ask I always respond. I have other good retro binoculars listed take a look I always combine to make shipping costs as sensible as possible.
THANK YOU
