Fine Quality Pair of Edwardian Field Glasses by J.H. Steward of London. Named: The Duke. This company often assigned names to its telescopes and binoculars in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The construction is in Brass with Applied Black lacquer which shows some age- and use-related wear.Marked to the eye-pieces.J. H. STEWARD / LONDON / ADJUSTED451 STRAND / 51 CORNHILL
*500mm / 2 Objective Lenses in fine condition.* Achromatic Bonded twin element Field Lenses Eye-pieces & Field lenses unscrew for cleaning. Central rotating focus wheel.Brass construction with original intact black leather cladding to main barrels.* Brown Hide leather-lined carrying case with mauve velvet lining throughout.CONDITION:Very good generally. Everything works as it should. The lenses are all intact and clear and deliver sharp images. Focusing is simplicity itself.FAULTS:None to the binoculars apart from the slight black paint losses clearly shown on the appropriate scans and the slightly distorted sun shield which could easily be corrected.The brown leather carrying case has a fewscuffs and scratches but is in overall reasonable condition with super original stitching. It lacks the closure strap for the cover. The carrying strap shows some age- and use-related wear but is intact.DIMENSIONS:Length: 7.25 / 18.8cm (with eye-piece focus fully out and sun shields extended.
