For sale; an unused pair of Helios Sprite-IV UCF 7×18 (very!) compact binoculars. This pair were another casualty in my on-going attempt to find a pair of compact binoculars which are compatible with my somewhat Neanderthal facial geometry. The bins are of a slightly unusual 7×18 specification; being of lower than average magnification, they claim an impressive 9.3 degrees/163m @ 1000m m field of view (I haven’t tried to verify this, mind you!). They really are very dinky, measuring approx. 10cm wide by 7cm deep; smaller than many roof-prism compacts. Unfortunately, they’re just a bit too compact for me; my deep-set eyes mean that I struggle to see the whole field of view. I tried them out briefly indoors, looking out, before deciding that they weren’t for me. For anyone not blessed with my rugged good looks, I dare say they’ll be fine (a good kids’ pair, perhaps? Hey, Christmas is coming!). As an aside, I’ve recently found an ultra obscure, 30-year-old pair of Chinon 2000 8×24 compacts; despite being twice the size and weight of the Sprites, they actually have room between the eyepieces for my big nose. We have a winner!Anyway, the Sprites are in more or less ‘as new’ condition with all original packaging, case, lanyard, cleaning cloth etc. Any takers?
