FUJINON 8X30 FMTR-SX BINOCULAR & ACCESSORIES
A superb example of the now rare and sought after Fujinon 8×30 FMTR-SX binocular, complete with its tethered objective caps, strap and rainguard. It is a waterproof/fogproof individual eyepiece focus binocular.
I tested all the best 8×30 binoculars for my book (see below) and I found this to be one of the best ever models in terms of optical performance with stunning brightness, contrast and colour rendition. The optics expert Dr Holger Merlitz, in his authoritative review on his website, considers it to be of very similar optical quality to the legendary Nikon 8x32SE Porro prism model. He also notes that the Fujinon employs a field flattener in the ocular lens to improve edge to edge sharpness.
Fujinon’s high-end binoculars such as this model, which use patented electron beam optical coatings, are widely recognised as some of the finest models from any manufacturer. Precision made in Japan to very high tolerances, the example for sale is extremely sturdy and well constructed, clearly able to give a lifetime of use.
This model was used in a modified form by various military forces but only sold in very small numbers on the civilian market (it has no rangefinding recticle). As such it is now very hard to find, with this example being the only one currently for sale on eBay in the UK and USA.
