Our charity began more than 13 years ago as aresult of the challenges faced by local mum whose son Russell needed full timecare.So far we have supported more than 100 children andtheir families through our hospice at home service and at our state of the arthospice, Russell House, in Huddersfield.When a child has a life shortening condition theystill need and want the same as every child- the chance to play, tocommunicate, to experience new things, to learn, to love and to laugh. We arehere to do everything we can to make children happier and more fulfilled whilethey are with us, however long or short that may be. Despite the commonperception, a childrens hospice is about enjoying life.We give support to the whole family, we helpparents have time to just be mum and dad again rather than full time carers, wegive time and attention to siblings and we support families through bereavementcounselling and general emotional support while they are caring for the childand often for years afterwards.With over 700 children and families who couldbenefit from our care across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield areas we areonly at the start of our journey and we would like you to be part of thatjourney with us.Weneed to raise 3.2 million each year to continue the support and care servicesthat we provide to our children and families.
