Carl Zeiss Jena DDR”Jenoptem” 8 x 30w T3M multi-coated wide-angle binoculars serialnumber 6161627(1985). This is a pair of genuine East German Zeiss binocularsclearly marked “DDR” and with the correct 7-digit serial number.TheJenoptem 8x30w proved to be the best-selling model for for Carl Zeiss Jena DDR.It offered the finest Zeiss precision optics in a compact package at anaffordable price. Its wide-angle viewing meant not only panoramic scenes but alsorapid acquisition and tracking of fast-moving visual targets such as birds inflight or sports action. Later examples such as the one here for sale alsobenefited from Zeiss DDRs revolutionary “T3M” multi-coated opticsgiving strong contrast and vivid colours even in challenging low-lightconditions such as dawn and dusk when other glasses washed out to grey. (Weightwithout case 520g approx., viewing angle 8.5 deg/150m at 1000m, overalldimensions 150mm x 110mm).These binoculars are in truly mint, “as new” condition. I very rarely use this description but I do not think that after being unpacked, they were ever actually used. Both the paint and black leather covering are gleaming, no traces at all of handling or use. Similarly optics are crystal clear,totally free from fungus and haze, collimation still perfect and both centrefocusing and right diopter adjustments silk smooth, all making the binoculars a realpleasure to use. All lenses and prisms are in perfect condition without anyscratches or chips and the deep blue T3M coatings are unmarked. Their original case is also in finecondition but not quite “as new” but its shoulder strap and the black binocular lanyard are unmarked. So an exceptionally fine example of this classic Carl Zeiss DDRbinocular.The binoculars will be verycarefully packed in a well-padded box for dispatch and sent fully tracked andinsured.
