BUSCH TERLUX9X BINOCULARS
Thefollowing is an entry in a number of internet sites that deal with old binoculars.Though the use of the Terlux models bythe German Imperial Navy cannot be documented, they were very popular in theBritish Royal Navy: ‘Busch Terlux are by far the best glasses I ever used’pronounced the English Admiral Lord Charles Beresford, as noted in a Buschprospectus of 1913.  In 1912, another Busch prospectus contained thefollowing glorification by the Geheimer Regierungsrat Dr. A.M.

‘The 10 and 8 power Terlux prism binoculars have always served well on thebridge, and especially the 18 power model is almost constantly used, because ofits great magnification, yet great sharpness and exact focus…the originalapprehensions, that it could not safely be held by hand, proved utterlyerroneous.  In the hand of the experienced observer, it is quite usable, even from a rolling ship.  This glass is often used by the officers of theship, as well as by all members of the expedition, even His Royal Highness thePrince of Prussia, and is much praised.’Thisparticular pair is the 9x magnification as inscribed on the right hand cover plate.  The lenses and prisms have been cleaned and give excellent collimated viewing. The dark brown leather covering has been removed to clean all the underlying aluminium oxide powder and has been glued back on.  Although the black enamel paint is still quite good on the cover plates and bridge, it has virtually disappeared from the aluminium parts. The hoods slide in and out easily and firmlyas they should. The right hand ocularfocussing is smooth. The central focusing is smooth but it catches very slightly on one ocular requiring very light finger pressure when viewing to ease it.The cover plates are inscribed with the Busch logo. On the left is the name BUSCH No91160 and the left TERLUX 9X. The end of the spindle carries the retailers name G. Spiller Ltd. George Spiller was a dispensing optician from 1873 with premises in 41 Wigmore Street, London. The third bridge is stamped with the number 91160. The second bridge is inscribed with what was probably the owners name. W. BRANSTON. This may very well be
M2-267481.PTE.W.BRANSTON.A.S.C.
The binoculars come with thier original rigid leather case which unfortunately is in very poor condition with no lid but will suffice for shipping and storage but not for use.
Would internationalbidders please enquire for postage costs.

Please note thatebay charges a final value fee on postage as well as the item.  On top of packing materials, packing &posting, travel costs, and paypal fees a portion of these additional charges has been added to the true postage costs.  I amsorry for this but ebay and paypal fees are now making it very difficult forsellers.
