They ain’t pretty! But they work well.I got these old Stepnadas years ago and they were in apretty awful state, but I was intrigued by all the hype about their opticalqualities and huge field of view so I stripped them and cleaned them, regreased the focus mechanism and got them working. I soon found out that thefull field of view was never obtainable because I was unfortunate enough to possessa nose! — Something the Ross engineers had never factored into their design.So I pared back the plastic eye surrounds tothe absolute shortest they would go and this just allows the eyes to get closeenough to see the full field of view. This pair are offered on the basis that they are notoriginal, the optics are a mix of coated and uncoated (prisms coated,objectives not), which probably reflects their wartime service, where partswere replaced with whatever was available. And the objectives have balsamfaults at the edges (which don’t have any noticeable effect on the view). But…but…but, they do work well! The image is very sharp, a sharpness which puts some modern bins to shame — and you can see all of it. If you look towards the sun there is a bit offlare, otherwise they are very usable. Big field of view. Very sharp image. Perfect collimation (alignment). Lightweight 500g Nice original leather case.Theseold bins are unusual and fun to use, give ’em a try for something different tothe average, run-of-the-mill new bins. They won’t break the bank. (Unless I’mvery lucky!) and They look much better in the hand than they do in thesepictures. Postage 4 second class signed for. UK bids only.
