Barr and Stroud  Series 4 10×42 ED BinocularsThe newBarr & Stroud series 4 ED sports binoculars are the latest addition to the Barr& Stroud range. The use of ED, shortfor Extra Low Dispersion, glass in the manufacture of the binoculars high precisionlenses, ensure that these binoculars are virtually chromatic aberration free, rendering superbly sharp, high contrast images in high fidelity colour.

Paradoxically this latest model from Barr and Stroud is the model that mostresembles the most famous Barr & Stroud models from the past. This is largelya result of the modern open Bridge design. The open Bridge has a number of advantages over themore traditional designs currently available. The most obvious is the ease ofhandling that this design allows; ergonomically it is a perfect fit with thehuman hand. This makes it easy and comfortable to use in the most gruellingcircumstances and particularly with gloved hands. A less obvious advantage, butone that will please many users, is the amount of weight that is saved by the open Bridge design, thismakes the Series 4 particularly suitable to those who are constrained by theamount of weight they are carrying, hikers, walkers, holidaymakers or servicepersonnel are but a few of those who will appreciate the ease of handling andcomparative lightness of the Series 4.
The series 4 range from Barr& Stroud feature rugged construction combined with brilliant optics andhigh resolution eyepieces to produces stunning images. They are waterproof to adepth 1.5m of water for three minutes, plenty of time to retrieve them if youhave dropped them in a stream or puddle. This requires a high degree ofmechanical engineering excellence in the construction of the binocular which isevident as soon as you pick it up or use the super smooth focus control wheel. We don’t expect that you willmake a habit of dropping the binoculars into deep water but we do expect thatyou will want to use them in any weather the planet can throw at you, so youcan feel assured that the Barr & Stroud Series 4 can take it, again and again. This ability is further enhanced by the binoculars rubber armoured body whichprotects it from shocks and knocks. The binoculars are filled with nitrogen gaswhich keeps water out and also stops the optics suffering from internal foggingin adverse weather conditions, this binocular is truly weatherproof.
Fully Multi Coated optics are standard features of the Barr & Stroud Series4 range as are BaK-4 phase coated prisms. The addition of Extra Low Dispersionglass adds a degree of sophistication that ensures as much light as possible istransmitted through the optics which results in super bright contrast richimages of high colour fidelity for the user even in low light conditions whereless expensive optics and coatings result in a dramatic loss of performance. For the comfort of the user the binoculars are supplied with metal twist upeyecups that are rubber coated which make them equally practical for people touse with or without spectacles. The rapid focus mechanism takes the user fromclose focus to infinity in less than one turn of the focus control knob, whichensures that you can follow the action however fast it is happening.
The Series 4 10×42 is supplied with carrying case, rain guards, tethered lenscaps, deluxe strap and lens cleaning cloth. Reviews
