The instrument is in excellent working order, it returns a fine sharp image, all lenses have been removed, checked and cleaned then oiled before refitting. Established in 1850 by Enrico Angelo Ludovec Negretti(1818-1879) and Joseph Warren Zambra (1822-1887) The company was highly successful from the outset having shops firstly in Regents street and later Holborn Viaduct. Counting amongst there customers the Astronomer Royal, Prince Albert, the Royal Observatory and Admiral Robert Fitzroy. The business was run by them and there descendents until well after WW11 and they became one of the finest scientific instrument makers in the world.
