For sale is a vintage / antique pair of metal binoculars.

They have a lovely aged patina to them and they come with their original leather shoulder strap attached.

I have given them a clean and managed to remove both of the front and one of the rear elements to remove some of the trapped dirt particles. I couldn’t get one of the rear elements to screw-off and I didn’t try too hard in fear of damaging them, so one of the barrels as you look down it is clean and the other one still has some trapped dark coloured tiny dirt particles. Hopefully somebody will be able to remove the other rear element in order to give the internal glass a bit of a clean because it makes a huge difference.

There doesn’t appear to be any mould or fungus, which is good to see. The glass has no scratches or chips / cracks either.

Focussing is fine (a little stiff though) and the eye piece focussing is also a little stiff. This is probably expected due to their age.

Some loss of coating in areas, which you can see in the photos as well as some white coloured staining around the

eye pieces. I tried to clean the white stains of but had no luck.

The spindle that makes the binoculars body move upwards and downwards appears to be working fine too – and again a little bit stiff.

Made in France.

(Newbold & Bulford Ltd had offices in both London and Paris so hence the reference to London and Paris on the main body of the binoculars).
