Antique Military Telescope The Lord Bury Telescope Made by J H Steward LondonAn antique 4 draw telescope model The Lord Bury made by J H Steward. The main barrel of the telescope is leather clad and has a brass plaque with the following inscription The Lord Bury Telescope, J H Steward, 406 & 457 Strand, No 5202 London. The 2nd barrel is also engraved J H Steward, 406 & 457 Strand. This particular model was in production from the late 19th century to the early part of the 20th century.J. H. Steward started out as a optician in 1852. The company supplied high quality optical equipment to the British and colonial military, as well as rifle associations around the world.ConditionThe telescope is in good original condition. It has the leather main lens cover but is missing the eyepiece leather cover. It has firm draw action a little stiff on the first and last barrels. There is a ding to the brass to the side of the eyepiece which does not effect its operation. The lens are clear and the telescope produces a good image. There is wear to the leather and brass consistent with age and use.
