Voigtlander Labyrinth binoculars & case in very good condition
This Voigtlander Braunschweig model was introduced in 1934 for civilian use. The rare and distinctive aluminium body construction was termed by the manufacturer Labyrinth sealing where the bridge arms from the hinge and the main body are cast in one piece. The other half of the cast body is sealed and screwed together, resulting in the characteristic seams running along the bodies. This essentially dispensed with the need for end prism cover plates resulting in a very robust and sealed pair of binoculars. Also very distinctive, are the Bakelite eye cups. This set is in very good original condition. There is a little edge wear and some tiny surface scratches but absolutely no damage. There is a small edge chip on one prism and some very tiny dust specks when backed viewed, but these are absolutely minimal and do not unduly affect normal viewing which is clean, clear, and collimated. Both oculars focus freely. The original black Bakelite eye cups are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The first bridge carries letters cast into the aluminium. On the left it has V.B. (Voigtlander Braunschweig) and on the right, 6×30. The name Voigtlander is cast onto the face of the right hand cover plate and filled with white. The serial number 116545 is stamped on the face of the other bridge at the objective end.
The binoculars come with a leather neck strap which is secure but should be used with caution.
There is also an original matching leather case in very good condition. There is no shoulder strap, there is a small tear in the lip of the lid, and the surface of the leather clasp is cracking, but none of these affect the use of the case.
