ANTIQUE BROADHURST CLARKSON LEATHER-CLAD 4 DRAW BRASS SPORTING / STALKING / FIELD TELESCOPE c 1920s with Calibrated 1st Draw.A large and superbly engineered instrument which would be ideal for Safari or General Field use. Leather cases with end caps and fully adjustable shoulder harness.
DESCRIPTION:Makers marks engraved to the Second Draw:BROADHURST CLARKSON & CO. LTD / 63 FARRINGDON ROAD / LONDON. E. C.* Excellent original, unrestored condition. All brass sections have the original dark patination.* Achromatic 2 &1/8″ / 55mm Objective or Field Lens. Excellent condition. No chips or scratches.* The twin elements are separable for cleaning.* 3″ Leather-clad extending sunshield for Objective lens. It moves easily but positively.* Calibrated 1st Draw permitting magnification from 25x to 40x in steps of 5* Schryll-Huygens 4 Lens configuration mounted in brass cartridges the First & Second Draws* All 4 lenses have individual threads and can be removed for cleaning. All are perfect.* Brass tube construction with stitched brown leather covering. Stitching all intact and original.* All brass sections have their original slightly darkened finish. There has been no restoration.* Magnification level is first chosen on the First Draw. The Second Draw is then used for focusing.* All images are precise, being sharp and clear, evenin low level lighting conditions.CONDITION:Absolutely excellent and virtually of museum quality as far as the telescope itself is concerned. Everything functions as it should. All threads are precise and easy to undo for routine maintenance.It deliverssharp and clear images over long distances. The magnification of course is variable by manipulation of the first pancratic draw tube. All the leather work is original and is in sound and usable condition.This is a well designed and engineered instrument for the professional user.FAULTS:None to the telescope. There is one small surface split to the carrying strap which is not particularly serious because it is beyond the present buckle position. There are the usual use-related minor scratches and scuffs to the leather sections.There is a very slight indentation to the leather covering of the main barrel, mentioned simply for accuracy. It has no effect on the free movement of the 4th draw tube.SPECIFICATIONS:LENGTH: Closed : 10.5″ + / 27cm Fully extended: 32.5″ / 82.7cm With sunshield deployed 34.25″ / 87.1WEIGHT: 1.326kg inclusive of leather lens caps and carrying strap.SUMMARY:It will be carefully packed and insulated to our usual high standards for fully insured shipping worldwide.
