A genuine antique 19th century solid brass telescope. Lenses in very clean condition, and to my amazement gives very crisp & bright images ! In 100% original condition, i so had to resist getting the Brasso out :)
As can be seen when objective cover is removed the brass is clean and bright. Nice features are sliding dust cover over eyepiece and objective, this has obviously played a major part in keeping the optics very nice.
Approximately 20″ closed and 35″ extended, a large weighty scope, no yellow tin going off here, all solid brass.
The leather covering has opened and needs replacing or mending? The brass underneath has gone green, hence my brasso urge !
There,s a dent on draw tube see picture, not to deep, looks worse on photos.
The thread between draw tube and main body is still there, but weak, Ptfe would sort out, but im sure there,s a better method for a 150+ year old telescope.
This would clean up a treat, but i have “just” resisted. Optically very clean.
I usually avoid brass scopes as there history goes all the way back to Galileo, but my knowledge does not.
A nice Telescope.
Thanks for looking and please have a look at my other Optics on eBay.
