CarlZeiss Jena DDR Jenautic 7 x 50 marine binoculars serial number5279366 (1980). This is a pair of genuine East German Zeissbinoculars clearly marked DDR and with the correct 7-digitserial number. The Jenautic was a specialist marine binocular made insmall numbers by East German Zeiss taking advantage of the 7 x 50’sease of use form a moving deck, wide field of view and excellentlow-light performance, all of which have made the type a favouritewith mariners.These particular glasses also feature T3M multi-coatedoptics, a world-first for East German Zeiss, guaranteeing outstandingoptical performance even in the most challenging viewing conditions.The binoculars are in excellent overall condition both optically andcosmetically, having clearly been very well cared for. Internaloptics are crystal-clear, no trace of fungus, dirt or haze.Collimation is also perfect, no double image. All lenses and prismsare free from chips and scratches. The only minor defect that I coulddiscover was a tiny silver speck in the left objective lens. Theseare caused by ageing of the optical cement and have no effect onviewing. The binoculars produce a bright, clear, pin-sharp image.Cosmetic condition is also excellent with really fine paint andleather, the only tiny defect here being a shallow, hardly noticeable dent in a prism cover.Sold with their red velvet lined solid-leather case, caseshoulder strap and lanyard. (The case hinge has a had a smallrepair.) Overall, a exceptionally fine pair of top-qualitybinoculars from Carl Zeiss, byword for optical excellence for over acentury.Thebinoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatchand sent fully insured.
