Carl Zeiss 6 x 30 “NVA” East German Military Binoculars. Until the introduction of their new dedicated military binocular, the legendary “NVA 7 x 40” in the 1960’s, the East German Army ( “Nationale Volksarmee”) made do with older binoculars dating back in many cases to WW1. The binoculars here for sale are a typical example, from the front knurled tensioning clamp a WW1-era Zeiss DF 6 or civilian Silvamar equivalent. Glasses such as these would have all markings carefully obliterated at a NVA optical unit, be overhauled and then given a fresh coat of black paint. Some markings would then be re-applied, sometimes actually “NVA” and a new military serial number, here just “Carl Zeiss Jena” and “6×30”, whatever was deemed expedient at the unit in question. 
These glasses still view quite well, despite mild fungus which just cuts down the brightness slightly but not the sharpness of the image which is still excellent, Zeiss optics of course. The eyepieces focus easily, collimation is fine and the central bridge free to move as required, prisms and lenses undamaged. Cosmetics are rough, the crude re-paint starting to flake off. They have a leather case, origin unknown but quite solid (with blue velvet lining!) and original black leather lanyard.
So a optical curiosity and a interesting addition to any collection of military glasses.The binoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch.
