Antique SHIPS TELESCOPE H. HUGHES OFFICER OF THE WATCH SPYGLASS SINGLE DRAW

An H. Hughes & Son Ltd London Single Draw Ships Officer of the Watch Marine Telescope or Spyglass.

Serial No 8449.

This Telescope will date to the early 20th Century.Silver Nickel Plated Brass, originally with a Leather Binding to the Metal Barrel which has been replaced with a very well accomplished Sailors Knot work Cover.

Ihscribed on the Sunshade,… D.N. HOARE.

As seen I have had this Telescope apart, all in very good order internally with only minor signs of age and use.

All the Lenses are now clean, all are present and correct, no major wear, cracks, chips, nothing badly worn.

* The Objective retainer is more than hand tight so I left it alone, it is not crossed or uneven, just tight *

As shown with some anomalies to the Objective Lenses, these are not visible in use and have no effect on the end result in any way.Focuses easily and precisely giving a superbly clear, sharp and powerful image in use, its magnification strength is surprisingly good. All the Threaded Components shown dismantled run well on clean threads and tighten properly, no issues at all.

The Knot-work Binding shows only minor surface signs of age and use, it is intact and firmly in place with no damage or structural issues.

The Barrel itself has no structural issues, obviously I cannot see underneath the Binding but it feels fine, no movement, no obvious dents.

Both Ends are strong with no movement, the Sun / Rain shade is all good, working firmly and smoothly.

The Eyepiece Shutter is present and moves firmly. The Draw is a good friction fit, moving smoothly and firmly with only extremely minimal sideways play at the joint when fully extended. A very good quality collectable and working Period Marine Telescope by a Documented London Maker.
