Zeiss Victory 8X56 B T*P* Binoculars

The design of binoculars as we know them today was invented more than 100 years ago. By combining two monocular telescopes, ZEISS brought binoculars to market that delivered a natural image with increased three-dimensional perception. ZEISS has been using telescopic lenses since 1954 to enable a more compact design. These intentions culminated in 1969 with the introduction of pocket binoculars, the ZEISS 8×20, which could be folded small enough to fit into a pocket.

A high point when the 20×60 came on the market in 1990 with its revolutionary image stabilization. The Victory 8X56 B T*P* Binoculars were announced in 2000, and manufactured from 2000 until 2005. These binoculars featured Abbe-Koenig prisms. They remain highly sought after.

This pair of Zeiss Victory binoculars do show signs of wear, and clearly they have been well used. There are a couple of small/hairline scratches on the front lenses, however their performance remains amazing. The Binoculars have been assessed by a local optical professional and were pronounced to be in good order.

This is a description of this model from a long term user:-

“The 8×56 Victory has a 396-foot field of view at 1000 yards, which is excellent for 8x binoculars. The minimum close focus is 16.4 feet, which is a bit too long for birding, particularly when in dense cover. The diopter is adjusted with a hard rubber knob on the central hinge between the barrels, whose deliberate stiffness prevents it from slipping out of the selected setting too easily. Zeiss opted not to use the The knob has + and signs on either side of the ridge that lines up with a similar ridge on the fixed part of the hinge to tell the user when the diopter is set for evenly matched eyes. Twisting the knob in either direction adjusts the focus of the right ocular relative to the fixed left ocular. In practice, the stiffness of the knob made this adjustment difficult to do.
The focus knob is grooved, hard rubber, and turns easily through the 1.5 turns required to go from close focus to infinity. The issue here is that the knob is recessed between the barrels to such an extent that it can only be turned in fairly short arcs, requiring five passes to achieve the 1.5 turns. This could be a bit slow for fast-moving birds. The long eye relief is 17 mm, and is adjusted by pulling the eyecups straight out, and locking them in place with a clockwise twist. This prevents them from collapsing inadvertently, and is an excellent feature.”
