Very nice pair of Dollond & Co binoculars, in their original case. Unfortunately the case does NOT close properly, the metal that is meant to hold it together is loose on one side, so it does not stay closed. Have not attempted to repair.
The binoculars are marked Dollond on one side, and London on the other, shown in picture two.
The bottom of the binoculars are covered in leather. The metal at the top does have dents and marks. At the top the lenses are meant to be painted black, and on one side it’s unfortunately been scratched off.
The case, with the damaged clasp (the metal can be fastened again but hasn’t been done by me – there is a picture showing this roughly) is marked “Dollond & Co. 5. Northumberland Avenue. Charing Cross. London.” – not sure what the 5 refers to…
Very nice pair, presume it’s for theatre/opera/etc.
