                                 VINTAGE CARL ZEISS 8 X 40 DELACTIS BINOCULARS                                        This auction is for a excellent pair of Carl Zeiss Delactis 8 x 40 binoculars complete with the original solid leather case, which is in a nice condition as is the case strap and lanyard. The serial number is 1190650 indicating 1922 as date of production. The Delactis was really ahead of their time , employing Erfle wide angle eyepieces giving a field of view of approximately 150metres / 1000 metres and with 40mm objective lenses, combined with oversized prisms of 50 mm resulted in excellent light transmission hence exceptional optical performance . These Delactis are in very good all round condition with the leather covering fully intact, no tears / rips and with no significant marks etc. The paint work shows expected wear considering the age factor but on the whole the binocular is sound ..well made and at close to 1100grams is no lightweight and looks as if it will last for another lifetime..( approx 1.625 kgs which includes case ) + packing will just be ideal for the special delivery for Uk destinations. Optically they are exceptional , no damage to any of the lenses or prism’s and all focusing functions are smooth and responsive. The image produced is bright and clear and the collimation is perfect. Reverse viewing reveals no internal problems with no signs of any intrusions etc With the benefit of all the information displayed on Google I show the following comments regarding this model. Quote: This Glass was the direct descendant of the WW1 8 x 40 but the addition of wide-angle oculars between the wars made all the difference in performance…features include classic porro prism construction, individually focusing diopters with nice large ocular lenses.
