The main tube has 1/8″ maximum indentation along most of one side (photos available soon), alignment checked and was barely affected, the diagonal mount was loose, reset and has held axial calibration, all optics near perfect condition. This was built like a tank its an all steel model probably at end of 1990’s to mid 2000’s

I have checked the collimation of the secondary mirror and it is now spot on axis, neither the primary or secondary mirror have axial adjustment. No standard collimation adjustment was available by design, and there is a fully coated coma correcting lens fixed in the focuser.

With this in the light train only a very fine final coma adjustment was possible or needed, and was done by placing some aluminium foil on the face of the tube where the primary screws in so that the threads on the fixed mirror mount took up final axial adjustment of star coma.

Unsurprisingly  the eight layer shim needed had to be positioned about 15 degrees anticlockwise off the y-axis of the slight and almost full length indentation of the tube!

The superb EQ clutch-less design of the Tal 1 mount on this scope is without doubt the finest available in the sub 200 range, everything just works superbly, you can swing the tube to any location and track what you see with great accuracy. And of course everything is right way up due to the lens! Possibly the best astronomical spotting scope ever made.

Moon views are beautiful with the clarity and contrast.only such a very solid mount with high quality optics can provide. There is also an almost perfect condition 6x30mm refractor secondary scope with eyepiece focus adjustment. No barlow, no filters no birch case, just the original again near perfect condition 1.25″ Tal 25mm Super plossl and an MA Super 10 of unknown origin.

Very clear views, imho the mount, tube and secondary optical viewers are worth  the Buy It Now individually.

Newtonian 5 the TAL-120 Grab and Go version of the Tal 1 with a superb 120mm diffraction limited mirrorThe TAL-120 incorporates an integral multi-coated negative achromatic lens in the base of the focuser to provide an effective focal length of 805mm in a very short tube. The result is a Newtonian reflector with an aperture of 120mm (4.72 inches) with a focal ratio of f/6.7 that is just as powerful but lighter and more compact than conventional models. The mounting and accessories are identical to those included with the popular TAL-1 model, except a T2 adaptor for prime-focus photography with a 35mm SLR camera is also included.
