SwiftBelmont Deluxe Extra Wide Angle 8 x 40 Binoculars c.1985.Designed in the US by Swift Sport Optics and actually made in Japan by YokoSangyo Co. Ltd following Swift’s policyfrom the mid-1960’s onwards to outsource manufacture to the top Japaneseoptical manufacturers. Swift binoculars of this era weredistributed in the UK by Pyser Optics, who through their defence contractsdivision, supplied Swift binoculars and monoculars to UK armed forcesand security services, a testimony to their high quality. A specialfeature of this particular model is its extra wide angle viewingcapability equivalent to 8.2 degrees. Not only does this mean a trulypanoramic view but also it is easy to acquire and track fastmoving visual targets such as birds in flight and sports action.Dimensions:- length 120mm/width 175mm/height 60mm. Weight withoutcase 635g.Construction is of these glasses is toSwift’s usual high standards, built around a robust diecast alloybody with precision machined steel and alloy parts with few plasticcomponents, optics fully coated. One of the best features is their super-smooth centre focus with a real qualityfeel. This model also has rubber bumpers around theobjective lenses to protect the lenses from shocks. Comfortable rubber eyepieces fold down for spectacle users and a standard 1/4 inch tripod adapter beneath aremovable cap on the front central hinge.This particular example is still in “as new”condition both optically and cosmetically. I bought the binocularsfrom a charity shop where they had been donatedas an unwanted gift, apparently never actually having been used. They therefore still have their original box, Pyser UK instructions leaflet, all fourlens caps, case, strap and lanyard, all in new condition. I canconfirm that optics are also totally clear and faultless, just aswhen new, crystal clear internally, no fungus, haze or dust, pristine lenses and collimation still as set in the factory. They focus and view beautifully, truly a real pleasure to own and enjoy.Thebinoculars will be very carefully packed in a new, well padded box for dispatchand sent fully insured.
