When I first began building my own refractors, I supplied these solid brass focus plugs as standard and they received considerable attention.
I stopped including them some years ago due to weight concerns, but I still have a few left over. There is a hole in the base, which unthreads and an internal cavity which has space for a small packet of silica gel to help with moisture control.
Please note that the rubber ring is very, very tight, but a serious direct impact can cause the brass to ‘roll through’ the ring into the diagonal or telescope, putting optical surfaces at risk. With this in mind, these are for display only and must not be left in place during transportation where impacts of any kind may occur.
Not to overstate the obvious but the focuser and diagonal shown are not included. This is just the brass focuser plug.
