RSPB WPG (Viking) 8.5 x 42mm Binoculars with BAK4 Phase coated prisms. Condition is “Used”. These waterproof, gas filled 8.5 x 42mm RSPB WPG (Viking) binoculars were bought new by me and have seen very little use in the last couple of years old age is creeping up on me . They are in virtually good as-new condition. (Note- these are not the cheap RSPB 8×42 Puffin starter binoculars, these are much better.)The RSPB WPG 8.542 binoculars are perfect for bird watchers – the lenses provide a very clear and light view. Morning, Noon and Dusk the 42mm lenses and phased coated BKA 4 prisms grab lots of light, so you will be able to see things clearly.At 8.5x magnification they offer a bit higher magnification than the standard 8x. They are extremely solid and well-built, with a uniform black rubber armouring, smoothly contoured strap lugs and well-protected, deeply recessed objectives.They are well balanced and at 770gm weight, they compare favourably with that of top-tier brands. In fact, it is even lighter than many expensive High Grades.The eye relief is excellent no peering to get the viewing hotspot the pupil exit is hugeThe rubber-covered eye-cups are comfortable and twist out to three spaced click stop positions. When the eye-cup is in the lowest position, there is still enough space between its lower edge and the right ocular dioptre ring for the latter to be adjusted without you having to change the eye-cup setting. Neat.The central focusing wheel is about one and a half fingers width. Its surface is knurled rubber and provides easy finger contact, even when wearing gloves. Just over one and a half turns of the wheel take the image from infinity down to a highly acceptable close focus of 1.8 m.The field of view 133 m at 1,000 m is excellent for an 8.5xmagnification model at this end of the market, and even beats some top-tier binoculars!
