I ran out of characters in the ‘condition description’ panel up above. So anything I’ve missed in there, will hopefully be found below.

For auction here is this rare pair of binoculars from the Second World War. If you are here reading this, you are probably more aware of what you are looking at than I am.

But here is what I have gleaned from a few internet searches.

The right shoulder is stamped Dienstglas (service glass) and the small, blue triangle indicates that they were made to be used in a cold climate (though I can confirm that they function very well in a moderate climate). The magnification, as you can see, is 7 x 50. The bmk tells us that they were made by Srb & Stys – Fabrik Praeziser Messinstrummente – Prague. The serial number is 152277.  There’s a WS scratched on the left shoulder. I’m assuming they were the initials of the infantryman or officer they were issued to.

There is a reticle / graticule / distance ranger in the right side (From Wikipedia ”Binoculars designed for military usage may include a stadiametric reticle in one ocular in order to facilitate range estimation” – Please look it up, as it means little to me).

There is no case, they come as they are seen in my photographs. The original leather neck strap is still attached, though it is showing signs of age and there’s the beginnings of a split at the top of it (Please see my final / 12th photo).

CONDITION :  On the whole I would say they are in good condition for their age, much better than many other WW2 period binoculars I have seen online and elsewhere. My photos are a large part of my description, so please see all 12 and make use of the eBay magnifying tool for close inspection. As mentioned in the ‘condition description’ panel up above, the lenses are free of chips, cracks or scratches, but you can see small particles of dust (70 years of light deposits) on the inside and the lenses could probably benefit from a professional clean at some point (I’ll leave that to the buyer). They do not hamper the view and the binoculars are still perfectly usable and the focused images are still sharp. Just like your spectacles or your vehicle windscreen, a wipe over can improve the clarity to a degree, but with binoculars, the inside of the lenses are not easily accessed, so I would consider it a job for the professional to wipe the inside of the lenses. You may be capable of doing it yourself. I personally would not want to disassemble the instrument.
