Rare Soviet military KOMZ prismatic binoculars / BPP 8×30 with original leather case. Collector’s item. Excellent condition with clear vision through both lenses, minimal marks of use on the body (see photos). Made by Kazanskii Optiko-Mekhanicheskii Zavod (Kazan Optical-Mechanical Factory) in the former USSR in the 1970s, possibly earlier. Porro prism design. Bought in Afghanistan in 2000s so likely to have been brought in during the Soviet invasion.
Listed here as ‘Baigish’ as closest option but in fact KOMZ and Baigish didn’t merge until the ’90s. Comes with case and leather straps for both binoculars and case are sturdy and in good condition. I expect this to appeal to a collector of militaria or Soviet-era optics but it’s in perfectly usable order.
Soviet military kit was designed to be simple and rugged, but the quality of the optics is on a par with superior brands such as Carl Zeiss that are slightly better known in the West.
