RareCXN Dienstglas 6×30 Bakelite binoculars – repaired
These rather rare CXN Bakelite binoculars were received in a badly damaged condition, in fact, in halves. Two bridge arms were broken and one prism housing was cracked with a piece missing. They have now been repaired with metal inserts for the bridge arms and a cast resin infill to the housing. The repairs have been left very obvious so as not to deceive. Although the optics provide collimated viewing, it is rather misty due to slightly dirty prisms. It was not worth the risk of breaking the thin Bakelite prism supports in an attempt to remove them for cleaning. So although these have minor issues, at least they have been saved. They are fully functional but should be treated with care.
