Precision Optical Co. Ltd. Stero Prism Binoculars Power-6
On offer here is a pair of Precision Optical Co. Ltd. Stero Prism Binoculars Power-6.
Precision Optical Co. Ltd.London.No.6893.Stero Prism Binocular.Power-6.Four military arrows have been engraved upon the outer casing (by the sides of each of the lenses).

The binoculars have been very kindly donated to St. Giles Hospice.

Structurally, the outer casing that surrounds the left eyepiece contains a chip, whilst there is a screw missing immediately to the right of the right eyepiece. Elsewhere, the rest of the binoculars’ outer casing would appear structurally sound. Aesthetically, the binoculars do exhibit signs of wear as would be expected for a piece of their age. Notably, the surface coverings on the outside of each barrel seem to have wedge-like sections manually cut away. Surface scratching is fairly ubiquitous throughout, whilst there are significant sections of paintwork loss (presumably through rubbing). The binoculars are also on the dirty/dusty side in places, so the winning bidder will likely want to given them a clean upon receipt. Please note that the detachable (cup-like) sections that surround the left and right eyepieces are of differing shades. I am unsure if this is because one is a possible replacement or because the colour of the left counterpart has simply faded more. I have uploaded a number of photographs of the binoculars, so please do take a close look at these to help make your own assessments regarding their condition.

Optically, the binoculars continue to provide a sharp image. Looking backwards through the binoculars’ objective lenses, I can see no damage to the internal prisms. Internally, though, the interiors of both barrels contain the occasional regions of fungal growth, most of which is limited towards the circumference areas. Down the left barrel, the outer edge of its prism contains what would appear to be a region of slight dirtiness/smudging, but thankfully this is located well away from the centre. Both barrels contain a mild-to-moderate presence of black specks and other fibres; there is also a slight occurrence of clouding. The lenses of the eye-pieces as well as the objective lenses all appear free from any significant scratching but there may well be some minor scratching that I have failed to observe. When bidding, please do take the above into account, and appreciate that the binoculars are an old piece and do not come in a pristine condition.

Adjustments can be easily made to the relative positions of the binoculars’ barrels. The binoculars are brought into focus via focusing dials on both the left and right eyepieces (there is no central focusing dial). Both of these dials are in working order, and continue to turn over nicely.
The binoculars come with a pre-attached neck-strap (which is rather worn); no lens caps are included.
The binoculars comes with a original Precision Optical Co. Ltd. London hard case (and is labelled as such upon the underside of its lid). The lid bears three military arrow marks. Although the fastening strap is rather worn, it still continues to successfully fasten. The neck-strap is of similar condition, but unfortunately the top handle is broken at its one side. The lid of the case is numbered “6266”. The case remains in a good, sturdy condition but does contain noticeable evidence of surface scratching, marking, rubbing and dirtying, as should hopefully be illustrated in the uploaded photographs.
Approximate dimensions (maximum) of the binoculars: 17.5 cm (width) x 11.5 cm (depth) x 5.1 cm (height).Weight of the binoculars (with neck-strap): 829 grams.
