I have had this telescope for ten years and have had a lot of enjoyment looking at and showing other people the moon particularly, and also Jupiter and Saturn. In a dark sky, the star clusters look amazing. When looking at the moon at certain times (around half-moon is best), you can see craters within craters, shadows around craters, the Lunar Apennines and much more. This telescope shows a lot of detail on the moon.  I have found it to be very easy to use. It is quite bulky , so it has had to live in the garage. It is also quite heavy, as there are heavy weights on the counter-balance mechanism. It is best kept assembled, and moved gently so as not to disturb the setting of the 8-inch mirror.

I need the space now, and so the telescope has to go. It cost around £500 when new, from Orion. I collected it myself as I wanted to avoid it being chucked around in a delivery truck, and have always handled it very carefully. The mirror is in excellent condition.

I have not been able to find the instruction manual, but as it is collection only (from Bristol) I would be happy to explain how it is assembled and used. I have attached an excerpt from the Orion catalogue that I had in 2005, which explains the technical details and a bit about the telescope’s capabilities.

Although there are a few scratches and a couple of minor broken parts on the tripod etc., the telescope part is fine. It is an excellent telescope and a very cheap way to start astronomy with, if it goes for the starting price. Good luck bidding!
