Leitz (Leica) Trinovid 10 x 40 binoculars serial number 762594 (1976.).True classic binoculars from one Germany’s greatest manufacturers,Ernst Leitz GmbH, Wetzlar. Launched in the late 1950s, the Trinovid set a newstandard in roof prism designs which led to their eventually superceding thetraditional porro-type in popularity. It could also be said that the Leica asit later came to be known (when the company adopted their camera brand across alltheir ranges) set a new standard in build quality that lives on to this day inmodern Trinovids, the model still very much a market leader. Thisparticular example isa relatively early example from when all the firms binoculars were still brandedLeitz. For full specification, please see the extract from the Trinovid brochureincluded in the photos.Thebinoculars forsale have clearly seen regular careful use as the light wear tothe cosmetics and case confirm. But the good news is that they come with a fresh ticket (clean bill of health) from one of Europes leadingclassic binocular specialists, Viking Optical, Suffollk, England and so are viewing beautifully with crystal-clear opticsand silk-smooth controls.  I know the firm very well, havingdealt with them (originally as Glasgow Binocular Repairs) for many years. Inthe photos is their invoice (original to be included in sale) confirming a full overhauljust done. This included all optical and mechanical aspects, naturally including a full painstaking optical clean and alignment checks. But all mechanical aspectsare also addressed, in this case lubrication and careful checking of the models sophisticateddual internal focus system. I always enjoy receiving telephone feedback on theoverhauls from their technician Joe (trained by the late Dougie Biggart). Notethat though all went very well, Joe reported did report one minor issue – some aging of the prism cement. This does not affect normal viewing but on reverse viewing there is a faint rainboweffect just visible but in the right optics only. Also there is any small old stain on a prism in the left optics, causeunknown but again only visible on reverse viewing. Butneither can be seen in normal use nor affect viewing in any way.Thebinoculars still have their high quality black leather case with red, rot-proof plasticshoulder strap and black leather binocular lining. So a great classic binocular to use and in enjoywith the peace of mind of a full recent professional overhaul. The glasses will be very carefully packed in a wellpadded box for dispatch and sent fully insured.
