A magnificent 3-inch F/13 achromatic refracting astronomical telescope made by the late and great Ronald Norman Irving at his workshop in 258 Kingston Road, Teddington c1975.
This is buyer collect only because the tripod and altaz cradle are very heavy.
This is a supremely stable mount. The telescope once adjusted and in balance glides in altitude and azimuth.
The OG is pristine and gives beautifully sharp and colour fringe free images.
An ideal beginners telescope. The Moon and major planets are amazing when viewed through the 1/2-inch RAS Monocentric eyepiece provided.
There’s also a nice lacquered brass 1.25-inch to RAS eyepiece adaptor so modern eyepieces may be used.
The finder is modern and works satisfactorily.
The Irving 1.25-inch rackmount is tight with no backlash. The drawtube is also tight. Made of brass.
All in all a gem of Ron Irving ‘s superb workmanship.
I knew the craftsman personally and can vouch for the quality of his engineering skills.
