Carl Zeiss West (Oberkochen) 10 x 50 binoculars serial number 516818. These very high quality binoculars were made by West German Carl Zeiss at their plant at Oberkochen, near Stuttgart in about 1965. They are of advanced optical design with features such as air-spaced objective lenses – for full technical description please see the Zeiss catalogue page included in the photos. These binoculars are in excellent original, unrestored condition. Optics are fault-free, internally crystal-clear, completely free from fungus, haze and dust. Collimation is perfect, still as per the factory settings, no double image or eyestrain. Lenses and prisms are completely free from damage with no cracks, chips or scratches and the blue Zeiss “T” lens coatings are unmarked. Centre focus and right diopter work very smoothly, the binoculars being extremely well engineered to the highest West German standards. They view exceptionally well with a wide, flat, pin-sharp image with excellent edge definition. Cosmetically the binoculars are in very good conditon for binoculars of this age. The leather covering is in good order and there is just the normal light wear found on binoculars of this age to the high-quality black paint. The only areas showing any real wear are the embelisher rings around the objective lenses, the`edges of the prism covers and there is a shallow dent on the left prism cover – please see close-up photos. The binoculars have their original solid leather case, bearing the Zeiss logo, case shoulder strap and black leather lanyard. A very sound pair of high quality West German Zeiss binoculars ready to use and enjoy. The binoculars will be very carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured.
