KRIEGSMARINE 10 x 80 20 Carl Zeiss binocular serial number 00210The pictures are as honest as we can make them, and have not been altered or retouched in any way. They show the item you will receive.Kriegsmarine 10×80 binoculars, by Carl Zeiss of Germany. The lenses & prisms are in excellent vintage condition, with just a few marks here and there and with no fungus on the optics, no separation of cemented components, and no obvious debris inside the binocular body. The instrument is in perfect collimation and the optics are in ‘combat ready’ condition. The body is in very good condition and fully functional. All adjustment knobs, inter-ocular spacing, eyepiece focus, and filter selection controls are fully functional and smooth in operation – the eyepiece adjustment is a little stiff in cold weather though. The filters are all present and are clear and clean and fully operational. The optics are clear and bright and very usable. This binocular performs wonderfully – and few people have ever looked through a historical glass this good and many people audibly gasp when they look through this glass – the huge 8mm exit pupils and oversized eye lenses are quite unlike anything most people, even experienced binocular users, have ever seen before. The instrument was restored and collimated by the noted British binocular specialist Mr R V Skinner about 10 years ago (Mr Skinner has made technical contributions as a consultant to the work of the noted German military binocular expert Dr Hans Seeger). The nameplate, reproduced by Mr Skinner, carries the serial number 00210 and the German wartime three letter manufacturer’s code ‘blc’ for Carl Zeiss. We understand this plate was recreated directly from the original which was lost. The rubber winged eyecups are non-original and can be easily removed and re-attached if required as they are not glued on – they do work very well though to eliminate stray light.
This is an increasingly rare instrument to find at all, and fewer still are found in this condition and to function as well as this example. A mounting bar is included with the binocular allowing it to be used with a competent modern tripod.
An excellent spring balanced tripod can be supplied for this binocular if required for around 650 (Fotomate VT-990-222R).
We have not bothered with weights and dimensions in this listing on the assumption that if you are interested in this instrument you already know that it is very big and very heavy. We answer questions promptly and can send extra pictures of areas not shown if required. We will pack this instrument very securely and have allowed for Europe-wide courier door-to-door delivery in the p&p charge – we are prepared to ship worldwide but there will be an additional charge for this.
Returns not accepted: this binocular is being sold from a private collection and we are therefore unable to accept returns unless the item is found to be significantly not as described.
Check our feedback and buy with confidence.
Update: In response to a question regarding reticules, and anything showing in the eyepieces: I confirm there are no guidelines or any form of sighting ‘screens’ in either eyepiece – the optics are clear and unobstructed in both tubes.
Update:
We will be listing a heavy duty all metal (steel and aluminium) tripod with slow-motion movements in the next few days (more details will appear here). The tripod has been used with this binocular for a number of years and found to be excellent.
