Carl Zeiss Jena Telex 6×24 binoculars – from the research I’ve done, I believe these are the final 4th version of the Telex range prior to being replaced by the Sportur in 1935. These probably date somewhere between 1920 to 1934.
Cosmetically, they are in surprisingly good condition considering their age. Majority of the paint is intact and much better than some of my pictures would suggest and the leather type covering is completely intact and only browned where the hands would have held them.
The bakelite eyecups are again fully intact with no chips.
Visually, the view is extremely acceptable( I own 6 pairs of modern Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski so I know what a decent view looks like) and binos appear to be still perfectly collimated. When viewed the wrong way, there are some internal dust marks but strangely, only to the right hand barrel, the left hand barrel being clear. A service would clear this and improve the already good view even further.
What is surprising is all 4 pieces of glass appear to my eye to be externally free of external marks or scratches which is remarkable for their age.
Focusing mechanism is also super smooth as are the twist out eyecups for individual focus
For those of you who may want to clarify the age, the serial no. is 1603297
They come with an old leather strap, not sure if original or not?
All in all, a very decent pair of early Zeiss binos which would be a great addition to a collection.
