On offer is a Carl Zeiss Jena Telementor 2 63/840 School Telescope in original polystyrene  packaging with all original accessories
I have owned this telescope from new, I purchased it in the 1980s. The telescope was made by the renowned East Germany (DDR) optical company of Carl Zeiss Jena. Although the objective lens is relatively small for a refracting telescope, because of the superb quality of the lens, this telescope far out preforms most others of a similar size. See https://www.scopeviews.co.uk/ZeissTelementor.htm for a review of the telescope. A quick search on Google will lead you to a large number of reviews, all of which give this telescope a very high rating. The telescope was originally intended for use in schools and universities hence the robust design, the tube alone weighs 3.1 Kg.
The objective lens is an achromatic doublet of 63mm in diameter, with a focal length of 840mm (f13). This telescope is quite unusual in its design as the large focusing knob on the side of the main tube moves the objective lens and not the eyepiece, this means that the focusing is very precise. The telescope tube is mounted, via a Vixen style dovetail, on to a very robust German equatorial head (adjustable to any latitude) which in turn is mounted on a very robust adjustable wooden tripod. The telescope comes with its two original eyepieces, a Huygens 25mm and a Orthoscopic 16mm plus a removable cross-hairs (fits both eyepieces). The telescope can be easily dismantled for transportation. The telescope tube is 80mm in diameter and can therefore, via 80mm tube rings, be mounted on most modern stands, if required. Both the RA and Dec axises can be locked in position by the larger knob, slow motion adjustment is then via the smaller knob. The eyepieces are both 0.965 inches (24.5mm), included in the sale is a 0.965″ to 1.25″ (31.75mm) converter (not tried). The total weight of the telescope, including original packing case and tripod, is 21Kg.
The eyepieces alone regularly sell on eBay for more than 100 each.
The telescope is in very good over all condition, there is no fungus or scratches on any of the lenses, the telescope has only ever been stored indoors, and never dropped or banged. There are one or two very minor scratches to the paint work, but other than that, it is in excellent condition.
List of items included in the sale:
1) Carl Zeiss Jena Telementor 2 63/840 School Telescope and dust cap2) 25mm Huygens eyepiece3) 16mm Orthoscopic eyepiece4) Cross-hairs5) German equatorial mount6) Adjustable height tripod7) Original custom polystyrene storage case and outer covering8) Original user manuals and supporting documentation (in English)
All photos are of the actual telescope. Any question, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to answer them. Because of the size of the telescope it will be posted in two separate parcels (encased in hardboard for protection).
I have not offered to ship this telescope outside of the UK as the shipping costs are very high and due to Brexit there are now additional costs in selling into the EU (VAT etc.). If you want the telescope to be delivered to an address outside of the UK and would like to bid on the telescope, I will only except your bids if you are willing to arrange your own shipping and insurance, I will not be responsible for any problems or additional costs incurred.
